Our identity as Christ followers is “God’s child.” What God says about us is a firm foundation upon which to craft our perception of ourselves and our perception of our own identity. When our sense of self is defined by anything other than God, it will ultimately be faulty, and it will be unstable. God has been revealing to me over the past several months how, although I considered being a Christ follower to be part of my identity, there were large portions of my sense of self that were not centered around or stemming from the truth He says about me. If we build our lives on the foundation of what God says about us, we will always have a firm, unyielding, unchanging truth from which to orient our sense of identity as opposed to the ever-shifting opinions of ourselves or those around us that we so often try to build our identities on.
