"AM I GIVING UP?" by Sarah Littleton
I was asked this question earlier this morning. Honestly, I had been asking myself the same thing about areas in my own live. Where do we draw the line between self care and giving up? I am reminded of the song "Never Let Me Go" by Florence + the Machine. One of the lyrics says "I'm not giving up I'm just giving in." Maybe asking ourselves what we are giving into is a better question. What are you giving into? Laziness and fear or are you giving into God's arms as He carries you through your burdens? Are you giving into your trust and dependence on God? Trusting God is scary. It is like traveling into the depths of the ocean where we cannot see. Florence says "In the arms of the ocean, so sweet and so cold / And all this devotion was rushing out of me / And the questions I have for a sinner like me / But the arms of the ocean deliver me".
Trusting in God doesn't mean we will not continue to go under into the abyss. It means when we are in hardship and disrepair His arms will hold us and carry us. "If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your [LORD] hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me" (Psalm 139: 9-10)
